Cruising mens rooms

Let&#;s Examine the Phenomenon of Cruising Bathrooms Through 4 Famous Queer Men

Throughout history and for a variety of reasons, queer men have looked to public bathrooms as places to get laid. Some men enjoy cruising public restrooms because they’re turned on by the exhibitionism and the possibility of getting caught, while others see it as a place to anonymously and discretely have a same-sex encounter in times when being outed as queer carries severe social, political and legal consequences.

Cruising public restrooms has develop an ingrained part of queer history, with mixed feelings surrounding it. On one hand, it’s considered so seedy, sexy and transgressive that “toilet tramp” hookup scenes have grow a common scenario in gay porn (and even inspired drawings of same-sex attracted erotic illustrator Tom of Finland).

On the other hand, it’s also considered by some to be a dark side of gay sexuality and history that has been used to shame queer men for their otherwise harmless sexual proclivities (often in the name of protecting children or public decency).

How did toilet cruising work?

I was reading an lgbtq+ travel guide from , and it reminded me that I've never understood the mechanics of the toilet pick-up. One of the notable features of the guide is that among all the bars and bathhouses listed, many locations also propose cruising toilets. This seems soinherently sketchy. How would you know when it was safe to signal to somebody? Don't you race the constant peril of an embarrassing and dangerous confrontation? Do you actually have sex in the bathroom, or is a appointment point? And given that these locations are so good established that they appear in a travel guide, wouldn't they be uncomplicated pickings for the police?

Any info or stories about etiquette and exposure mitigation would be of interest.

Bonus points if you can illustrate how toilet cruising worked in an international context. After a strong warning about how deadly cruising is in the Middle East, for example, the guide lists toilets in Syria and Kuwait. There are similar listings throughout the world. While cruising in the U.S.

Red jacket by 3rd stall

Now then, since I wasn’t in the market to gave strange guys do that sort of thing to me, I can’t say I ever popped by at However, it seems to me that this is a better way to get the crap beat out of you than to get some sort of earthly delight. So, I figure…
(A) Gay bashers publish such notes in order to beat up those who entertainment up
(B) Gay people publish such notes and are thrashed up by gay bashers who respond
© Both A & B occur, which would construct for an interesting sight.
(D) Gay people post such notes and are met by other gay people and all is well.

Anyone know which of those was most frequent? Like I said, it seems like a hoax to me, but then I guess it was harder to meet homosexuals back then which would explain why you don’t see as many notes now (more acceptance). But even still, there’s got to be a better way. Oh well… such is the mind of white h
