Ipanema Beach

Ipanema beach is bordered by Arpoador Beach on one conclude and Leblon Beach on the other end. This beach is considered one of the main centers of activity for the city of Rio. One of the most expensive places to live, the neighborhood is packed of wealthy residents. 

Around the Beach

Considered the “little Paris” of Rio it is renowned for its avant-garde galleries, bookstores and film theatres. Stop in at H. Stern, one of the most popular jewelry stores in the area, and take a tour of their museum. Not only is it free but you receive a little box of semi-precious and precious stones as a gift. Every Sunday the Hippie Fair is held with vendors selling everything from wooden dolls to swizzle sticks topped with parrots. Garcia D'Avila road has some of the foremost brands of the city. 

Where to Eat & Drink

If you long to try genuine Brazilian feijoada, for the best sushi, for some of the best and most expensive churrasco, you can go to Ipanema. Have an after dinner drink at Garota de Ipanema at the corner of Rua Vinicius de Moraes, where the song “Girl from Ipanema”

The gay spot at Ipanema Beach is a little to the East of Rua Farme de Amoedo (see guide of gay highlights). This is the best place to make friends with locals in a relaxed atmosphere, away from the bars and clubscene.

While bears and trannies prefer to encounter in Copacabana's Bolsa, Gay Farme is Barbie Land. Before you ask, Barbie is how locals call muscled South Side gay men. Waxing is optional You don't own to be in top shape to join the amusing, though. Farme is so traditional with the gay people, that even beach vendors display the rainbow flag.

If you're in great company and feeling romantic, go ahead and cuddle. There are a lot of gay and lesbian couples doing exactly the similar thing. Kissing, holding hands and other displays of care happen all the time.

All Brazilian and foreign lgbtq+ visitors to Rio know about Farme Beach. It's very international and approachable. If you've never been to a gay beach and you're curious, you're welcome to interrupt by. The lgbtq+ beach is half a block from a beach soccer field, less than 10 minutes from Cap Ferrat.

There are two gay beaches in Rio de Janeiro which can be initiate in the heart of the tourist centre and are both relatively shut to each other. There is also an unofficial third gay beach in Rio we will share.

The first is Farme Male lover Beach in Ipanema and the second Bolsa Lgbtq+ Beach in Copacabana (full details on each male lover beach below).

Unlike most homosexual beaches around the society, these gay beaches in Rio de Janeiro are easy to find, there is no need to go hiking!

Both Farme Homosexual Beach (Ipanema) and Bolsa Gay Beach (Copacabana) hold rainbow flags raised so it is clear where to find them.

Rio de Janeiro is a superb city for gays to visit. The locals are very open and accepting of all walks of life. Gays, lesbians and transgenders are all welcome to celebrate the Rio experience openly without terror of reprisal.

The Beach

The beaches of Rio are usual meeting point for all groups. Despite being good received in all the beaches, there are preferred areas for the queer community. In Ipanema, where Rua Farme de Amoedo finds the beach is the favorite. Copacabana also has a gay section, and it is located near the Copacabana Palace Hotel. Reserva Beach in Barra da Tijuca is a good area that is well known for the rainbow flag place up in the beach for alternative visitors.

Gay Neighborhoods

The gay district of Rio runs along the Rua Teixeira de Melo right next to Farme Queer Beach. Walk around between Galeria Café for a bit of fun. Rua Farme do Amoedo is mixed but has a large gay population. This area is also more relaxed if you undertake not feel like dressing up.
