Been to a bunch of different massage places across Hong Kong now, and Shanghai Onsen is definitely my favorite. The only reason I tried it in the first place was because it’s quite adjacent my house, but having been a few times now, I would state it’s worth the trip wherever you are. The quality of massage you will get here is second to none, and the price is very reasonable. Nobody asks for tips, but if you are having a entire body massage, you can tip 20% or more when you pay at the end (I usually want to tip more because they deserve it). It’s up to you. The massage guys in the other better-known places are younger, fitter, etc, so if that’s what you’re after, then don’t go to Shanghai Onsen. But those guys won’t present you such a sensual, intimate and expert experience as Shanghai Onsen. In my experience, guys in other places are good looking, begrudging, not really trained in massage, will go through the motions, obtain you off the table when time’s up, and find you to remunerate maximum tip.
