Christopher Stephens developed a close friendship with the blind gay activist Roger Butler while a learner at Oxford in the first decade of the present century. Butler died in and left all his property and papers to Stephens, the latter documenting his life as homosexual in London and Oxford from the preliminary s. Homosexuality was illegal in the United Kingdom until , and hence Butler’s papers provide an important and fascinating account of the problems that gay men faced in Britain. They either had to suppress their sexual, emotional and romantic inclinations or risk becoming a convicted criminal and facing all the shaming, ridicule and even hate that gay men faced in those less enlightened days. The Rehoboth Beach Board of Commissioners election is coming up in a few weeks on Aug. 9, where three first-time candidates are vying for two open seats: Susan Stewart, Chris Galanty, and Jeffrey Goode.
The board is the governing body of the capital, responsible for creating the budget, appointing city officials and enacting ordinances. Seven commissioners, including the mayor, serve at a time for three-year terms, with no term limits. Two current commissioners, Edward Chrzanowski, who’s gay, and Francis “Bunky” Markert Jr. are not inquiring re-election.

A while ago, I started on something called ‘, The Clearwater Tales Volume Two’ to accompany ‘’, which is volume one. I’ve written the first two chapters of what may one evening be another anthology connected by a situation, and I own gathered some characters together. I have an observer and his backstory, the setting – a foggy night in a Wiltshire railway station where the Penzance special is delayed. The characters tell stories while they remain out the night. I hold the station master, Harry Carnforth, a character who made a brief appearance in ‘Grave Developments’ and was then cut, his name is Martin Dewhurst, and he wants to attend the Larkspur Academy.
