Gay life in quebec city

Gay Quebec City

With its narrow cobblestone streets, old city walls, and friendly gay scene, Quebec City seems to possess everything for a magical trip. As soon as you arrive in the charming quarter known as "Old Quebec," you'll understand this city, founded in by Samuel de Champlain, is like no place else in North America. The friendly locals converse predominantly French, but in tourist areas and homosexual bars and restaurants you'll manage with English.

No matter what the season, there are always exceptional events taking place in Quebec City. The summertime Festival d'Eté de Québec takes place in July, and winter’s Carnaval de Quebec, happens in January and February. For the gay community, the Fête Arc-en-ciel, known in English as the Rainbow Festival, takes place in September.

Getting here

Jean Lesage International Airport is about 12 miles northwest of downtown. There are also trains and buses between Montreal and Quebec City. If you are driving between the two cities, the journey takes about three hours.

LGBTQ Friendly Canada

I still remember my first trip to Canada, for a Model U.N. Conference at the University of Toronto.

Walking around the college campus and downtown area I couldn&#;t consider how diverse the city was.

Boston, where I grew up, was predominantly white. There wasn&#;t a lot of diversity of any kind.

Toronto was such a formative encounter for me of how vastly distinct the world could be outside of my New England bubble.

This is what I love about travel &#; how it exposes us to new ideas and ways of living, which can radically influence our possibilities.

During my senior year in upper school, our French class took a trip to Quebec City.

Traversing the old city in search of a flaky croissant, practicing our French ordering in restaurants, and wandering the ice maze at the Winter Carnival, I felt transported to France.

That summer, I organized a road trip with my friends to Montreal, taking one last vacation together before we went off to separate colleges.

Since those tall school trips to Canada, I&#;ve been back multiple times.

Experiencing Canadian Food

Canada is a melting pot of cultures and this is reflected in its nourishment. Canadian cuisine is a fusion from around the world, from Aboriginal to English and French to Asia and other cultures.

Poutine (a combination of fries, cheese curds and gravy) is often the first thing people think of when they reflect of Canadian food. From Quebec, there is also Montreal-style smoked meat (cured beef brisket) and Montreal-style bagels (wood-fired and thinner, sweeter and denser than other bagels).

Canada is also famous for its game meat (such as venison, caribou and moose), peameal bacon (back bacon cured and rolled in cornmeal), maple syrup and ice wine. Also on the must-have list: the Caesars, an alcoholic drink that contains vodka, a tomato and clam juice mix, hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce; butter tarts (sweet dessert tart); and Nanaimo bars (three-layered chocolate dessert).

La Ville de Québec: Packed of History and Same-sex attracted Pride

It was a gorgeous hot summer day as I landed at Aéroport Jean Lesage in Québec City. It had been years since I had visited Québec City so I was very excited. I was excited to be on holidays and in a beautiful city prefer Québec, and I was super gay-excited to be there during their annual Fête Arc-en-Ciel – which is basically “Québec Metropolis Pride”.

La Fête Arc-en-Cielhas been around for a several years and is a delicious grassroots community event that is a much smaller version of Montreal Pride and Toronto Self-acceptance, with parties, entertainment, performative queens, a VIP lounge and a plethora of rainbows! Taking place over Labour Day weekend, it’s a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of a big city, and escape to one of Canada’s oldest and quaintest cities.

I travelled with my partner, as I contain done many times to Québec, so we were on familiar turf. After checking into the official hotel, the Delta Hotels by Marriott, I registered with the organizers in the main hub where I received a friendly welcome and a brush on each chee
